In regards to the NEA brief of creating a ‘health magazine’ for 16-25 year olds I am planning on creating a rugby focused magazine showcasing both the physical health benefits of the sport via fitness, rehab and injury prevention (magazine 1 ) and the social and emotional health benefits of playing within a team. Throughout the magazines, I hope to establish a clear message of the brand whereby rugby, as a sport, is empowering, inclusive and incredibly beneficial to allowing a person to live a healthy life. The use of rugby draws on stereotypes of masculinity within sport and through by central focus of women in sport counteracts the social view and instead provides a progressive reflection of all the true benefits of playing in a team- for your fitness, mental wellbeing and overall health. This will appeal to my young target audiences who may be apart/aspire to have good fitness- achieved via a healthy life/attending the gym. Magazine 1 will show them how to gain good and permanent physical health and fitness through using an elite female rugby player and her advice for the audience. The audience reading are likely to recognize the cover athlete and this will therefore increase audience interaction and participation with the brand as they may aspire to live like her. Magazine 2, focusing on the social and emotional health benefits of playing within a all-female rugby team, will also appeal to the target audience. Through the audience already participating in a team or the desire to be apart of one, this magazine will not only show the benefits of team events but further the importance of women’s rugby and its benefits on health.
